Who will be Miss Manila
2011? |

The
Fiesta Filipina Dance Troupe once again presents
the candidates for Miss Manila 2011, who will
act as our ambassador to all the activities of
the Filipino community this summer.
Three years ago, when we joined forces with
Filipinos.ca to further enhance our pageant, we
received a very good response. This we think has
inspired and helped in increasing the
self-esteem of our candidates. As a pageant
organizer, we also feel that we succeeded in
making the pageant experience more fun and
unforgettable.
This year we have 10 candidates. They have been
together for four weeks preparing for their big
night on May 7, 2011 at the Korean Cultural
Centre. We invite everyone to vote and be part
of the experience. The winner of this online
voting will carry the title “Miss People’s
Choice” and will receive a trophy from
Filipinos.ca.
WE also invite you to see them on May 7, 2011 at
7:30, the big night promises a very enjoyable
evening as our candidates compete for the main
title, Miss Manila 2011.
Thank you,
Tess Cusipag

Miss Manila
By Dan Miguel
Every year to kick-off the start of a festive summer, 10
to 20 young ladies vie tfor the prestigious title of
Miss Manila. They come from all over Ontario. They could
still be in high school or already in the university,
all wanting to represent the Filipino community and show
its values and culture. At start of the competition,
some lack the confidence, but as they progress in the
month and a half of preparation and training, walking,
dressing-up, speaking in public, handling interviews,
they all grow to become a rightful Filipina ambassador.
Yet only one lucky beautiful young lady can win the
title of Miss Manila. After she is crowned, she starts a
year long career of showcasing the Filipina in all
community functions. She becomes a role model to younger
girls, as she travels and embraces more the Filipino
uniqueness.
The Miss Manila started as "Filipina Princess" hosting
thousands of guests to Manila Pavilion at then 9-day
Metro Toronto International Caravan. Now at the annual
Brampton Caravan (Carabram), she is the most admired
host embodying the modern Filipina as she gives on stage
an overview of the Philippines and its culture, while
flaunting the famous Maria Clara Terno.
Having gained the experience, several former Miss Manila
and runner-ups have gone farther to join major beauty
pageants in the Philippines. We should be proud of these
ladies. |
